Stun Gun (PT) (Colonels Smoking Gun x Sugar Baby Whiz x Topsail Whiz) zapped the competition in the
$10,000-added Intermediate Open division. Ridden by Sam Smith for Victoria Lambert, Hempstead, Texas, the 5-year-old mare scored a 221.5 for third place in the Open division and
first in the Intermediate Open. “I was in the process of getting her ready for Carl [Lambert] to show in the derbies this spring,” Smith said. But plans do change.
Smith took Stun Gun for a test drive at a derby held in Waco, Texas, early
in February. They won the Open and Intermediate Open divisions with a score of 150. “After Sam marked a 150, we decided to let him show her for the rest of the derbies this year,” Victoria said. “Carl will show her in the APHA World
Show.”
Smith said he likes the mare’s attitude. “She loves to hear ‘whoa,’ but her strong point is really her mind,” Smith
said. “She’s a good show horse. She wants to be good in the show pen. She’ll do things there she won’t do outside.
After I showed her at Waco, I told Carl that the last time I felt a horse like that in the show pen was Hollywood
White.”
Smith won the 1997 NRHA Open World title on Hollywood White. Stun Gun earned $3,857 in the Open, $3,457 in the Intermediate Open and a total of $3,118 in the Open to the World Derby.
