Kallion Farms “Advanced Genetics” Sale
College Station, Texas -- Kallion Farms, College Station, Texas presented their “Advanced Genetics” Brahman sale offering on May 2nd at the ranch. The 190 head of predominately Brahman cattle drew a standing room only crowd from four states and Mexico, who paid an average of $2,177 for the offering. The Kallion program utilizes DNA markers in their selection program for marbling, tenderness and feed efficiency. Disposition is also closely monitored and scored. The demand for this information was evident in the interest for the cattle.
The breakdown of prices paid included five pairs, which averaged $2,530; 66 bred females that averaged $2,540 and 89 open females that drew an average price of $2,113. In addition the sale lineup included 30 Hereford females bred to sexed Brahman semen for heifer calves and these sold for an average of $1,510.
Topping the offering was Miss Kallion 1220, a daughter of Mr Mendel De Kallion 302. She sold bred to a son of the proven +JDH Karu Manso 800. Roy Lee and Angela Herbert, Choctaw Cattle Co., Sunset, Louisiana made the final bid of $5,500 for the heavy bred female.
Bill Faulk, Faulk Farms, Crowley, Louisiana purchased the high selling open female of the offering for $5,000, Miss Kallion 1372. She is a daughter of the national and reserve international champion, Mr V8 924/5 and out of Miss Kallion 599, a daughter of +Mr. V8 189/4.
Miss Kallion 1000 drew a bid of $4,000 from the Heberts. This +Mr. V8 189/4 sired female sold safe in calf to New York 825. Miss J&M Sexada 602, a Karu daughter was purchased by James Simons, Sargent Ranch, Austin, Texas. She was safe in calf to New York 825 for a heifer calf and she also brought $4,000.
Sam Good, Mansfield, Texas purchased Miss Kallion 1167, a Rancher 300 daughter. She was safe in calf to the Hereford bull, Star Battle Ground for a heifer calf. She brought $3,200 and led the strong demand that was expressed for this group of females bred to have F1 heifer calves.
Mike Vanderburg, M&A Cattle, Bokchito, Oklahoma and Darrell McKinnerney, Hondo, Texas each purchased pens of five Hereford females, bred to low birth weight Brahman bulls for heifer calves for $1,525 each.
Volume buyers were James Simons of Sargent Ranch and Sam Good.
Kallion Farms is owned by the Byron Vassberg family and the sale was managed by Milton Charanza, Jr., of Broken Triangle Cattle Marketing. Leo Casas was the auctioneer.
